A Teenage Student’s Feedback by Victoria Heap:

On the 26th September 2010 I took my Grade 2 Keyboard exam at Burton on Trent. I scored 97% because of all the help I got from the Music School. I go to the Play for Keeps Keyboard Course and have a lesson every Saturday which is really fun to do and easy to learn.

I’ve just got my third Play for Keeps Book and the songs look really good! Lauren and Kerry (who work at the school) really helped me to prepare for the exam, giving me tips on how to improve my pieces and giving me catch up lessons when I missed a week.

The school also gives you great opportunities to perform at places such as Burton Town Hall, which is where I played my first group keyboard concert with the school. It was a great day and it is something everyone enjoyed; playing or watching!

I think that the Music School is a great place to go for anyone that loves music or wants to learn how to play an instrument. You get to make friends with the people in your class and whatever teacher you get – you’ll LOVE them! I would recommend that anyone who is interested should check out the school because I’m sure they would love it!

Parent’s Feedback by Tim & Julie Rymond:

We are the proud parents of Joe aged 12 and Vicky aged 10 who both attend Keyboard lessons. The weekly Thursday and Saturday sessions have become a way of life.

The staff are always enthusiastic and welcoming, who would not enjoy being serenaded by Ian playing the guitar whilst waiting for the lesson to end.

Joe is now working towards his Grade 4, his group work well together, all being a similar age and have fun at the same time. He is taught by Kerry who keeps them well focused but they all finish the lesson with a smile. Since starting High School his keyboard playing and his ability to read music have been noticed during lessons. He achieved the highest marks possible in his music assessments and has been approached to play in a school production, much to his embarrassment but secret delight.

Vicki is now working towards her Grade 3 and is currently taught by Lauren. She enjoys her lessons, planning her Saturdays around them. Her music ability has also been noticed at her Primary School and she has been placed on their ‘Gifted and Talented’ register.

They have gone through many stages with their lessons. Being indifferent, being very enthusiastic, not wanting to do their homework to asking for extra homework! The hard work and extra sessions just before an exam do pay off though when they lead to marks of merit and distinction.

They have now got to the stage where the reading of music is getting much easier and playing the keyboard is just a pleasure. They rarely pass the keyboard without stopping to play saying ‘ Hey listen to this’.

There is nothing better than proudly watching your child perform in school assemblies, music school productions or even just at family parties.

We are very happy that they now have this skill and ability, improving all the time, which will stay with them a lifetime, and thank Kerry and her team for helping them achieve this.

An Adult Student’s Feedback by Chris Poxon:

I would like to say a big thank you to Kerry at the Yamaha Music School for the piano/keyboard lessons that I have been having for the past two years. The Music School has helped me to acheive more than I ever hoped for.

I started my piano lessons in October 2008 just wanting to be able to play along to my pre-bought midi files. After acheiving this I went on to learn to read music and have learnt the skills to create and record my own backing tracks for use as a semi-professional musician. Many thanks for your valued support and help.
